[Peter Manning] Wardening Tues 30 June 9:10-11:10. Fairly still with steady rain much of the time, but still around nearly half the numbers of people of last week's sunny day. 24 folk around but 12 of those appeared to be just out for a stroll, and 6 joggers, not so many dogs. 2 of the notice boards on the main canal path have acquired a small amount of graffiti. Encountered again a lone Canada Goose waddling down the permissive path, seems to be getting quite tame now! Quite a number of wildfowl on the water behind the screens (well it was the weather for ducks!), seemed to me mostly with juvenile plumage. Did spot a GW Egret. A Sedge Warbler was at the top of reeds close to the permissive path, and I stood for about 15 minutes as it just hopped along all round me at the top of the reeds, singing away! The cattle were very thoughtful this week, lying and chewing just by the gate so I did not need enter the field. When I went past again they were all standing and looking healthy.

ReplyDeleteOvercast & windy but quite mild, Met 37 folks 20 of which were leisure walker,8 twitchers, 5 cyclist & 4 dog walkers.
Spots today:- From Fishlake viewpoint Grey Heron, 5 Swans, Cormorants, Hobby &.Grey lag geese. From canal path , Chiff Chaff, Sedge warblers Swifts, House Martins. From screens, Coots, Tuffted Ducks. Mallards and Reed Warblers singing by l/h screen.
Cows not easy to find again, only seen in distance , all seemed OK.
Walked all paths, all ok & clear, came back via river path & main Rd, see World of water is closed again, obviously the people that took it on could not make go of it.
